Job Description:
Currently, Recruitment BBC HR Direct are seeking for qualified candidates to join their London team in the position of Producers, Brazilian Service. This opportunity is a Full Time position to be based in London, United Kingdom.

Responsibilities:
Working in a team of journalists and reporting to the Service Head and to the Editors. On a daily basis, reporting to Desk Editors/Editors in London and Sao Paulo, as appropriate. Shift work may be required which could include nights, weekends and public holidays.

Successful candidates will report in the field, originate, research, prepare, produce and present items, articles, packages, interviews, discussions, complete programmes, background, analysis and features, for radio, video, the internet and other media forms. To ensure that any editorial material for which the post holder is responsible meets the standards required by the BBC. To work as Duty Editor, publisher of the website and coordinator of the video and radio production when required

Candidates will have a full command and up to date knowledge of Brazilian Portuguese as first (or equivalent) language together with an extremely good knowledge of English. You’ll also have a good broadcasting voice and the ability to acquire the appropriate presentation style of the network. Recent and relevant full-time experience as a journalist, both in originating material and editing the work of others is essential together with experience of reporting on international and Brazilian political and economics issues. You’ll be able to demonstrate a good range of contacts for interview purposes including political and economic analysts, politicians.

Candidate Requirements:
The ideal candidate should fulfill the following requirements:At least 8 years of working experience in a related field. Possess a Degree and above from a recognized institution. Fluency in Portugese will be essential.

JOB PURPOSE

To report in the field, originate, research, prepare, produce and present items, articles, packages, interviews, discussions, complete programmes, background, analysis and features, for radio, video, the internet and other media forms. To ensure that any editorial material for which the post holder is responsible meets the standards required by the BBC. To work as Duty Editor, publisher of the website and coordinator of the video and radio production when required.

MAIN DUTIES

1. To research, report, write, translate, edit or adapt stories or programme material; to find contributors and interviewees as well as other sources of material and/or actuality, as appropriate and to the required specification whilst maintaining professional journalistic standards of accuracy, impartiality and fair dealing and adhering to the BBC’s Editorial guidelines. To ensure the availability of required production facilities.

2. To write original material and, when necessary, work as a reporter in the field for radio, online, video and other media forms.

3. To be responsible for a moving story, amending and updating material as required. To be able to freshen a story. To be responsible for thinking through and around editorial problems, developing realistic alternative strategies and approaches.

4. To perform in front of the microphone and in front of the video camera with or without a script, live or in recording sessions; either as Programme Producer, or as a participant in others' productions.

5. To conduct interviews either in the studio or on location, live or pre-recorded, for video, radio, internet or other media forms.

6. To liaise closely with other team members and with contributors, reporters and stringers. To advise other parts of the BBC on target area affairs.

7. To be responsible for studio production of live and pre-recorded programmes for radio, video or other media forms. To respond to breaking stories whilst on air and to resolve technical difficulties.

8. To ensure that BBC Editorial principles and all relevant legal, contractual and copyright requirements are met, referring upwards in cases of difficulty or doubt.

9. To build and maintain links with BBC WS Online, BBC News Online, BBC Online and other departments of the BBC to enable the efficient production of online, video and radio content.

10. To broadcast and write online pieces in Portuguese on news topics and events (political, economic, social, cultural, scientific, sport) in a manner which is timely, authoritative, lively and interesting, and readily understandable by a non-specialist audience.

11. To alert editors to breaking news and be ready to file accurate, immediate on the spot reports.

12. To maintain and extend a contacts network of academics, politicians, journalists, etc. To help provide contact numbers, interviewees, set up discussion programmes, and provide other programme material to the BBC.

13. To offer ideas for items, programmes/series and to actively contribute to the editorial planning process. To suggest new angles on existing stories, means of moving the story on, and to put forward stories not yet covered. To understand the Service’s strategy and to suggest ideas appropriate to its distinctive style and content.

14. To brief the Studio Manager, cameraman and other members of the team, as necessary, in respect of the transmission or recording of any radio or video programmes or part of a programme for which the Producer is responsible.

15. After appropriate training, to be able to use a range of audio, video and digital equipment and information technology to research, shoot images, write, assemble, edit and deliver programmes in the appropriate medium, to the highest professional standards.

16. To direct Broadcast and Online Assistants in preparation of radio and video programme material for which the Producer is responsible. To provide data necessary for the preparation of programme and other administrative records.

17. To be responsible for efficient use of allocated resources.

18. All producers may be required to travel outside the UK on reporting trips and assignments and to spend long periods of time in the target area.

19. All producers may be required to work with or move to other programme teams on a multi-media basis and to have the ability to work across a range of skills and in a flexible manner, and to carry out these responsibilities in accordance with the BBC’s overall standards and values. To provide advice or file pieces, etc, on occasions to other BBC outlets.

20. To contribute constructively to playbacks, programme reviews and editorial discussions to improve programme quality.
