Main Purpose of Job: The primary role of the Manager, Research & Consulting Center, is to execute research and consulting service projects and to deliver the customers with critical and effective information based on Thomson Reuters' strong scientific databases and expertise. Research & Consulting Center covers all the customers in the scientific business of Thomson Reuters; e.g. companies and institutes in the academic, government, pharmaceutical, chemical, consumer electronics, automobile and information services. The manager of Research & Consulting Center takes a role of a playing manager of the team, proposing and managing projects by him/herself, working with the customers and partners, and providing strong leadership to the internal and external project members so that the quality, cost, and delivery targets are achieved to satisfy customer needs. The manager and the team members go to the customers to identify their needs and create real customer values. Then, all available information assets such as scientific literatures, intellectual property information, pharmaceutical database, and analytic tools are appropriately selected and integrated to create high quality deliverables.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Identify customer needs and SOW, manage projects, and produce high quality deliverables.
- Take a playing manager's role and execute the above responsibilities by him/ herself and with his team members.
- Ensure the level of quality, cost, and delivery schedule of the projects executed by Research & Consulting Center.
- Continuously update the resource allocation plan and execute it without overloading and idling of the resources
- Look for market opportunities that align strategically with company direction and work with the sales team to hit the revenue and profit target of the Japan RBU.
- Work with internal functions and sales groups to ensure a coordinated and effective project execution.
- Professionally represent the company at all times
Potentially successful backgrounds:
1. A senior consultant or analyst with hands on work experience in the scientific or academic fields.
2. A senior research service professional who makes research reports with data analysis, graphics, and documentation based on customer requirements
3. A senior searcher of scientific databases who leads a large scale research project with other experts with different domain knowledge
Qualifications
1. Capabilities to manage complex custom-made projects are must 2. Communication skills both in Japanese and in English are required. 3. Interest in collecting and analyzing scientific data and providing insights and recommendations is a must 4. Excellent presentation and interpersonal communication skills are required 5. Commercial acumen, with a proactive and creative approach to looking after the needs and concerns of customers 6. Knowledge and understanding of the information industry and the behaviors and requirements of Thomson Reuters customers and end-users 7. Good customer and partner management skills is a must; e.g. the ability to deal with a wide range of customers from end users in an organization to the top management. Employing resources with required skill sets internally and externally to effectively execute projects 8. Good team player / self starter with the ability to work using own initiative.
1. Selling experience of custom services will be an advantage 2. Solution selling experience is desired. 3. Good track records as a sales person or a solution consultant is desired
