It is a two-day-a-week role, based out of our Pyrmont office. You may be a recent journalism graduate or have completed a cadetship. You will be prepared to work in a team environment, be able to write clean and accurate copy and strictly adhere to deadlines. Ideally you will have some knowledge of current employment issues in NSW.

This could be an ideal start-up position.

Editors must be comfortable handling both longer-term projects and run-and-gun enterprise work that complements our coverage of big ongoing stories. Assignments might include editing a sensitive 2,500 word financial investigation and an 800 word scoopy initiative piece on, say, the British phone-hacking controversy.
They must be strong bullet-proofers--capable of helping writers deepen and harden up their reporting, of unearthing errors of fact and logic, stripping stories of bias, making sure that all premises are truly backed by hard facts, and giving alternative truths their due.

The Bangalore editorial newsletters team packages indispensable financial news and data for Thomson Reuters clients in an easy to read multi-media format. These newsletters help clients prepare for the day ahead and catch-up on news at the end of the work day and spans various regions covering economies, stocks, fixed-income, credit and forex markets. The candidate is responsible for publishing time-sensitive news the affects financial markets, targetted at specific clients. The position will include being up-to-date on news and handle story-telling in all formats - text, graphics, pictures and videos. The candidate will work on various tools that help compile and publish the newsletter and will work closely with other colleagues in the team as well as in other teams across the globe.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

Work as a part of a team to compile a newsletter aimed at clients in the fixed income or equity market by selecting relevant Reuters news and editing them to conform to the newsletter format.

- Ensure the newsletter is pertinent to the following trading day and showcases Reuters' breaking news, analysis and other high value content.

- Ensure deadlines are met and be able to report on the status and schedule of the newsletter at all times.

- Maintain a high level of accuracy, pay attention to details; ensuring clients get accurate data and stories, in line with Reuters principles and standards.

- Monitor news flow, anticipate and plan work for the day.

- Proof-read and review newsletters multiple times to ensure accurate content, spelling and grammar.

- Communicate effectively via phone and email with editors and contributors on a daily basis and escalate any problems promptly.

- Maintain and constantly update details of clients interested in the newsletters.

The candidate needs flexible to work various shifts and currently the team covers shifts starting at 0700 and goes on upto 0400

Qualifications

Education Qualification :

Graduation: Prefer Bcom, BBA / BBM or MBA, studied finance or economics

1. Very good English language skills both written and spoken.

The successful candidate would be expected to drive timely two-track coverage delivering spot and market news to local and international clients eager to keep up with developments in one of Africa's most watched economies while also promoting and writing agenda-setting and insightful news stories and special reports on South Africa and Southern Africa that would distinguish our Africa file. Reporting to the Bureau Chief, Sub-Saharan Africa, he or she would lead a team of journalists in our Johannesburg bureau and manage a network of correspondents in the Southern African countries.

Responsibilities:

- Produce an outstanding news file to serve all Thomson Reuters customers. Prioritise resources on the stories where we can make an impact and take a lead on coverage ideas.
- Report and write memorable stories and break important news that provides agenda setting insight. Develop multi-media packages for major stories.
- Use every effort to ensure Reuters reports, edits and writes fairly and accurately, and corrects errors fully and promptly.
- Enforce quality standards - working with reporters to improve articles that do not make the grade. Improve stories through high-quality editing and rewriting.
- Develop new sources, and cultivate deeper relationships with existing sources. Share information, contacts etc. across the newsroom, and to other bureaus and regions .
- Identify talented journalists to hire. Mentor junior team members to help them reach their potential. Manage performance effectively, rewarding those who excel and making clear the need for improvement to underperformers.
- Develop effective working relationships with general managers, business colleagues and support departments.
- Appear on television, radio and other efforts to promote Reuters journalism. Help and encourage other journalists to do so.

Qualifications

Degree level or equivalent experience

The technician ensures that background data is thorough and accurate, ensuring that the graphics layouts accurately represent the data and are aesthetically pleasing, reviewing the text for grammar, style, and clarity to accurately reflect the data, and reviewing the finished documents for completeness, color, and print quality.

The Quality Assurance Technician ensures a high degree of accuracy in reports provided to mutual fund boards of directors/trustees, counsel, and C-level executives. A high number of reports must be checked for data quality, grammar and consistency between reports. Flexibility and teamwork are critical to the success of this role.

- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or related field, or equivalent work experience
